Description

Alfalfa is a herbaceous, perennial flowering plant in the legume family Fabaceae and originated in south-central Asia. As it develops, various stems bearing trifoliolate(leaves with three leaflets) leaves arise from the crown buds. Alfalfa powder is fine, light-green colored, odourless powder obtained from dried and ground alfalfa leaves. It can be used as a dietary supplement and can be added to food and vegetables.

  • Alfalfa powder contains several important minerals and vitamins like calcium and iron. Calcium promotes strong bones and teeth, and iron helps in the production of red blood cells.(1)

Note

Alfalfa Powder should not be consumed during pregnancy as it could stimulate uterine contractions. It should not be consumed by those having clotting disorder or gout. It may also interfere with some medications like diabetes drugs, diuretics and anti-inflammatory medications.(2)
