Beetroot juice is dark red juice obtained from beetroot, a dark red spherical taproot portion of a beet plant. It can be extracted using a juicer, blender, or food processor. It can be prepared with beetroot skin intact for extra nutrients. It can even be available in packed form. The juice can be flavoured with sugar and salt, and can be served as a beverage.
Go for natural beetroot juice and avoid juice that contain added sugars and preservatives.
Regular intake of beetroot juice may increase the risk of blood pressure dropping too low. It is high in oxalates and must be avoided by people prone to calcium oxalate kidney stone as it may form kidney stones. (2)
