Usage Tips

  1. In Vietnamese cuisine, Bird's Eye Chilli are added to soups, stir-fries and salads.
  2. They are eaten raw too or put in fish sauce as a condiment called 'Prik nam pla' and eaten.
  3. In Thai cuisine, these chillis are added in Thai curries and in Thai salads.
  4. The stems should be removed and the chiles can used whole, sliced, diced, chopped, or pureed.
  5.  The seeds can be removed for less intense heat.
  6. The fresh chillis should be stored in the crisper section of the refrigerator and will keep for up to two weeks. Do not rinse them and store as moisture causes decay. Bird's eye chiles can be dried or pickled.

Description

Bird's Eye Chilli are small, tapered and pointy peppers that are extremely pungent and hot. They are green when unripe and turn red when mature and sometimes orange or purple. They have a glossy body on the outside and quite a crunchy texture on the inside. They are Mexican in origin but most often used in Thai, Singaporean, Malaysian, Indonesian, Lao, Khmer, Kerala, Chinese and Vietnamese cuisines. They are consumed either fresh or dried.
