Caraway seeds have a strong aroma. Their appearance is similar to that of cumin. They have a crescent shape, dark brown colour, with up to five stripes running lengthwise on their surface. They are used whole or in ground form for culinary purposes.
Buy whole caraway seeds instead of its powder, as it may contain adulterants.
Overuse of caraway extract with iron supplements or iron rich foods might increase iron levels in the body and may cause hemochromatosis (Iron disorder in human body).(2)
