Description

Corn nut is a snack food made of roasted or deep-fried corn kernels. To make corn nuts, corn kernels are soaked in water(for 2-3 days), then roasted and lightly salted. They are golden-brown in color with crispy texture. They can be coated with seasonings or sugar and served as a snack.

Health benefits

  • Corn nuts contain more of unsaturated fat than saturated. Unsaturated fat helps to lower levels of "bad" LDL cholesterol.(1)
  • They contain good amount of fiber, essential for better digestion.(1)
  • They provide iron which is needed for oxygen transport.(1)

Selection Guide

Go for baked or roasted corn nuts instead of deep-fried. Also read the ingredient label to make sure they are not too high in sodium content. Check for their "use-by" date on the packaging to confirm their freshness.

Corn nuts that contain high amount of sodium, may be associated with high blood pressure and an increased risk of heart disease if consumed excessively.(2)
