Mango is a juicy stone fruit produced from numerous species of tropical trees belonging to the genus Mangifera. The fruit is a drupe, with an outer flesh surrounding a stone. Being juicy and aromatic it cam be eaten in various ways. There are various varieties of mangoes produced and eaten widely. One of the many famous varieties is Dasheri mangoes are a variety of Indian mangoes that are long and oval shaped, with a light green to yellow-green in color when mature and almost golden yellow when ripe. Dasheri mangoes have a fiberless, peach-colored flesh with a medium-sized stone with very sweet flavor and aroma. Dasheri mangoes originated in northern India, near Lucknow. It was first recognized when it was planted in in the garden of the Nawab, or ruler, of the area during the 18th century. Lovingly called ‘chusne wala aam’ by children, it is best enjoyed by tearing off the tip and sucking out the sweet pulp and juice. Dasheri mangoes are one of the most favourite types of mango due to its sweet taste and strong aroma. Just like other mangoes, Dasheri mangoes are high in vitamin C and fiber.
