Ferrous citrate is a brownish-red solid that is used as an iron supplement in food. It is insoluble in water, ethanol and acetone.
People with iron overload disorder should avoid taking ferrous citrate. Ferric citrate can cause diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting and cough.(2)
