Green raw mangoes are the greener version of mangoes that range from oval to slightly kidney in shape. They grow at the ends of long stems on evergreen trees in subtropical and tropical regions. They are green in color with firm skin that offers tart smell. Their inside reveals firm and crispy flesh along with a small, thin stone in the centre. They can be crushed into a pulp/paste and used in cooking as well. They are commonly used in Thai cuisine. Green raw mangoes are available throughout the year.
Look for green raw mangoes that are firm and don't yield at all when squeezed. Press finger on the mango to check if they are ripe or unripe. When buying green raw mangoes, make sure they are not soggy around the stem. Also, they should have a tart smell.
Green raw mangoes can cause stomach ache, gas, bloating and abdominal cramps. They can also cause nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite.(2)
