Taste Profile

It has both tart and sweet flavors.

Usage Tips

  1. In North America, a mix of grenadine and beer is commonly known as the Queen Mary.
  2. Grenadine is also a popular ingredient in some non-alcoholic drinks, such as the Roy Rogers, pink lemonade, and Shirley Temple cocktails, or simply by mixing the syrup with cold water in a glass or jug, sometimes with ice.

Description

Grenadine is a commonly used, non-alcoholic bar syrup that is dark red in color. Grenadine was originally prepared from pomegranate juice, sugar, and water. The name "grenadine" originates from the French word grenade which means pomegranate. Just like most cocktail mixers, grenadine is better when made from scratch. All you need to ake Grenadine at home is pomegranate juice, sugar and orange flower water. In a saucepan, combine the pomegranate juice and sugar. Bring to a slow boil, stirring constantly until all of the sugar is dissolved. Reduce the heat and cover. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Allow the mixture to cool, then pour it into a small decanter or bottle with a tight-sealing lid. Add a dash or two of orange flower water now seal the bottle and give it a few good shakes. (If you can't find orange flower water—it's not a common ingredient—you can use orange or lemon peels instead. )
