Description
Gum base is the base used to make chewing gum and is what gives chewing gum its “chew.” It is prepared from a combination of food-grade polymers, waxes, and softeners to give it the desired texture. It also enables chewing gum to effectively deliver sweetness, flavor, and dental benefits. Some artificial colors, flavors, and sweeteners are added to it, to support the edible and soluble portion of chewing gum. It is an inert and insoluble non-nutritive part that is discarded after chewing.
