Description

Humectant is a hygroscopic substance used as a food additive for retaining or preserving moisture in foods. They enhance stability, maintain texture, extend shelf life and reduce microbial activity in foods. Most widely used humectants are salt and sugar. Other humectants includes glycerol, sorbitol and propylene glycol.

Selection Guide

Look for the expiration date on the packaging of humectants.
