Usage Tips

  1. To prepare fresh or dried kair berries, soak them overnight and then boil in salt.
  2. Fresh kair berries should be prepared within a day of harvest.
  3. They can be used pickled. They can be used in preparing vegetables and curries.

Description

Kair is a densely branched shrub found growing along farm boundaries, local grasslands and wastelands. It can reach upto the height of 4-5m. Its branches are tender and waxy with rough, corky, gray bark. It produces kair berries that usually ripens from green to white in colour and from small to larger caper similar to the size of a blueberry.

Selection Guide

Look for fresh kair, pink fleshy, round berries. Avoid the ones that are discolored or have soft spots.
