Description

Peppermint is a hybrid of water mint and spearmint. Peppermint is used as a flavoring in breath mints, candies and other foods. Additionally, many people consume peppermint as a refreshing, caffeine-free tea. Peppermint leaves contain several essential oils including menthol, menthone and limonene which when used as extracts, work wonders. Peppermint extract is an herbal extract of peppermint. It can be obtained through steam distillation, solvent extraction, and soxhelet extraction.Due to its fresh taste, the mint extract is popularly paired with cakes, cookies, nutrition supplements, sugar-free products, and energy bars. To make easy peppermint extract at home, rinse the peppermint leaves and add them to a canning jar. Pour vodka over the leaves. Add the lid and ring and tighten to fingertip tight. In case, of alcohol free extract vegetable glycerine can be used in place of vodka. Put a lid on the jar and shake a few times. Store it in a cool and dark place, shaking once a day for the first few weeks.

Selection Guide

Look for mint leaves that are perky and even-colored. Avoid the ones with brownish-black color as it indicates damage. If you’ve bought a bunch of mint held together by a rubber band, remove it when you get home.
