Description

Permitted Antioxidant (INS 386) is a compound organic in nature that is used as an antioxidant in foods. It helps bind free radicals to its structure thus preventing oxidation by inhibiting the action of free radicals on fats, vitamins, and even food pigments thus preventing rancidity, browning caused by enzymes in fruits and vegetables and discolouration in the food. It was first synthesized in 1935 by Ferdinand Munz. It exists as a colourless, water-soluble substance.

Permitted Antioxidant (INS 386) should be always bought in well-sealed packaging and within the expiry period.

Exposure to high doses of for a prolonged period may lead to loss of metal(s) like iron from the body.(1)
