Description

Pita bread is a round, leavened flat bread which is generally made with wheat, but can also be made with multiple grains and whole wheat to enhance nutrition. Pita bread is a family of yeast-leavened round flatbreads baked from wheat flour. It is very common in the Mediterranean, Middle East, and neighboring areas. One of the easiest bread to make, it is also versatile and can be used for so much more than a pocket to put yummy things in. Pita is actually a very straightforward bread dough: water, flour, yeast, salt, and that’s about it. What makes it puff so impressively is the dual action of water turning to steam and the yeast becoming hyperactive when both are hit with the heat from the oven or stovetop.
