Description

Sandalwood is basically a medium sized evergreen tree with drooping branches, dark rough bark and scented mature wood. Its bark is smooth and gray-brown in color, and the small flowers have numerous short stalks. Sandalwood has shiny leaves and small dull purplish flowers. It has round, purple-black succulent fruits. It occupies an important place in Hindu religious rituals. It is native to India, the Malay Archipelago, and Indonesia. It grows on the sandy, loamy, clayey and rocky soil, in dry deciduous forest. It can also be found in valleys, deserts, and mountains. It blooms throughout the year. It is the second-most expensive wood in the world, after African blackwood.
