Description

Seaweed is a form of algae that grow in the sea, along rocky shorelines around the world. It includes several species of macroscopic, multicellular and marine algae. It is a food source for ocean life and vary in color from red to green to brown to black. It is edible and can be eaten and used in the preparation of food. It is commonly eaten in Asian countries such as Japan, Korea and China.

Health benefits

  • Seaweed contains iodine and an amino acid called tyrosine, that helps the thyroid gland to function properly. (1)
  • It contains a wide range of protective antioxidants that protect body from cell damage. (1)
  • It is a good source of fiber that promotes gut health by increasing the growth of good bacteria in the gut. (1)
