Description

Soybeans are a type of legumes that are an important component of Asian diets and have been consumed for thousands of years. Soybeans are often eaten whole, but processed soy products such soya chuncks, soyaballs and soya chaap are much more common these days. Soya chaap is a popular dish in India that is made up of small pieces of soya baked using skewers in a brick oven called a tandoor after marinating in spices and yogurt- essentially a vegetarian take on tandoori chicken tikka. It is readily available at commercial dairy shops but can also be made at home. To make healthy soyachaaps at home, take soya beans in a bowl with water, soak it overnight and then grind to make a paste. Now take water in a bowl, add soya chunks to it and bring it to boil. After the boil, drain out the water and soak it in cold water till they become soft. After draining out all the water, grind the soya chunks to make it a paste. Take soya bean paste in a bowl, add soya chunk paste, maida and salt to the bowl. Stir all the ingredients thoroughly and add water to knead a dough. Flatten the dough like a chapatti and cut long pieces out of it and roll it into sticks. Take a pan full of water and heat it, add the sticks and let it boil a little. Drain the water, let it cool down and soak the sticks in cold water for a few minutes.
