Both the leaves and bulb have a mild and gentle flavor as compared to regular onions.

Usage Tips

  1. It is used as a food additive in salads, garnishes, soups, stews, stir fry and Chinese cooking.
  2. It works well as a chive/leek substitute.
  3. It can also be added to sandwiches and salsas.
  4. Chopped spring onions in soy sauce with some chopped chilli and rice vinegar makes a great dipping sauce.

Description

Spring onions have dark green hollow-tubed leaves and a white bulb. The spring onion is believed to have originated in the Far East and has been a favourite in China and Japan for centuries. Both the green leafy part and the white bulb of the spring onion are edible.

Selection Guide

While buying spring onions, choose the ones with a firm, unblemished bulbs, and bright green leaves. Avoid those that are slimy or wilting.
