Description

Tandoori masala is an Indian spice mix consisting of a variety of spices. Tandoori masala contains cayenne pepper and/or red food coloring to give it a pink or bright red color. Tandoori masala is used to flavor many Indian dishes. Though it is easily available commercially, tandoori masala powder can also be made at home. Just toast the cumin, coriander seeds, cloves, and cinnamon sticks in a pan over low heat until they begin to release their aroma. Remove the spices from heat and allow them to cool. To this spice mix add ginger powder, red chilli powder, garlic powder, turmeric, mace and salt. Now, grind the ingredients in a coffee grinder to make a smooth powder and then store it in an airtight container.

Selection Guide

Make sure to check the "use by" date of the masala before buying. Look for a certification mark so as to be sure of the quality.
