Description
Yellowfin tuna is a species of tuna. These mid-sized tuna fishes are torpedo-shaped with dark metallic blue backs, yellow sides, and a silver belly. With very long anal and dorsal fins they have bright yellow colored finlets. They are comparitively more slender than bluefin tunas. Yellowfins are able to breed year-round however; the most productive spawning periods are in the spring and fall. The bright red meat of yellowfish tuna has a tendency to turn brown to grayish-tan when cooked. They are mostly found near the surface of tropical and subtropical oceans around the world. This variety of tuna is observed to a very healhy choice due to its low-calorie and low-cholesterol and high protein content.
