Sushree Satapathy hails from a joint family from Cuttack, Orissa. Being brought up in a joint family of 30 members in the household, she realised that food and cooking is a vital lifeline for all. During the early days, the 'Maharaja' (Head Cook) appointed by family head representative used a very traditional and authentic manner to cook the meals of the day. Being a keen observer amongst a dozen of children around, she understood early on, that cooking was no easy feat but at the same time, a mastery and love for food needed to be perfected overtime. Blessed to have several continuing exposures by way of a great cook in both her Mother and Mother-in-Law along with the traditional techniques from the Maharaja, she learnt the art of cooking. Over the period, dossier of cookery books became her shelter in pursuit for gaining sharper knowledge for the purpose of perfection in the art she had inculcated. She was determined that theoretical knowledge can only assist her in creating various ideas and combinations of possible new recipes and thereby practical implementation was imminent. She began cooking and experimenting with various recipes for her Family, learnt from her friends and the TV show Khaana Khazana hosted by Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, a turning point in her life that broadened her horizons. Her interest in cooking piqued in the year 1997 when she participated and won a Home Chef contest organized by a hotel management school, Durgapur. After moving to Kolkata in the year 2000, she continued to participate in cooking contests and won many accolades. Sensing her penchant for making tasty easy to do Oriya recipes, she was invited to various cooking shows by different TV channels - Zee Bangla, Akash Bangla, DD Bangla, Roopashi Bangla and more - to showcase her skills in more than 20 shows. Her recipes have been featured in vernacular mainlines – (Sambad Newspaper) and magazines (Kadambini Magazine), National mainline – Times of India and Good Food Magazine, BBC India. She then shifted to Mumbai in 2013. Sushree participated in the Dabur Homemade Homestar Contest and was a finalist for cooking with Michelin chef Vikas Khanna after being selected in best 3 in Zonal round by acclaimed Chef Ranveer Brar. Life came a full circle when she won the Sanjeev Kapoor’s Sugar Free Dessert Contest held all the across the country in 2016 and cooked on camera with the Chef, her winning dish – Spinach Mousse (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJMB_pIHHLo). Sushree regularly participates in contests on online platforms like Secret Indian recipe, Better butter, Cookpad etc. One of her recent wins is that of the contest held by Hershey’s “Meethe Bahane by Ranveer Brar”. She has also been invited a couple of times by the one of the city’s finest luxury hotel – Renaissance, Marriott international to showcase her Oriya desserts to the patrons of the hotel. Her signature cooking style is Oriya Fusion. She likes experimenting and mixing international and Indian flavours from different states in Oriya cuisine. Sushree is certified in baking from various schools – SK Culinary Studio, Wisk by Cakesmiths and Vaishali’s Krustty Kremme – School for baking and decorating arts. In her spare time, Sushree loves to spend time with her family and friends, explore and ideate new recipes, painting and experimenting in her home kitchen.
