Cornucopia Bread Basket Recipe

Cornucopia is a bread made during Thanks Giving Festival or any any holiday feast or Gatherings. This Cornucopia bread is easy to make using aluminium foil to hold bread dough wraps and maintain it's shape. This hollow shape bread is used as a centre piece for any occasion to hold roasted vegetables or use it as a bread basket .

I make Cornucopia bread a day before and cling wrap well to stay fresh on kitchen counter .I prefer to bake for a gathering and relish with jam ,curry ,grilled chicken

Methods
  • 1. Add instant yeast in a lukewarm water and let it rest for few minutes. In a wide bowl add all purpose flour,sugar and salt and mix thoroughly.
  • 2. To it add instant yeast mixture and knead well with enough water. Now add butter and knead for 10 to 15 minutes. Apply oil in a bowl and transfer the dough and cover with a kitchen towel. Let it rest for 1.30 hours or double it's size.
  • 3. Preheat oven to 175 degree Celsius. Tear off aluminium foil and fold to fold half diagonally to make a hollow cone.
  • 4. Beat egg with water to make a glaze. Take the bread dough and deflate the air. Roll the dough and cut into thin strips as shown.
  • 5. Begin wrapping the thin strips around the cone. Brush ends of next strip with egg glaze and press to attach to the end of the dough strip.
  • 6. Continuous spiral wrapping the cone, slightly overlapping the dough,until there are three strips left.
  • 7. Pinch one end of the three strips together and then braid. Brush bread around opening of cornucopia with glaze. Gently press on braid and brush the whole Cornucopia with egg glaze.
  • 8. Bake Cornucopia for 30 minutes or until brown. Remove from oven and let it cool completely. It's ready to occupy the centre table for a party
  • 9. Roast an y vegetables as you wish and fill in the Cornucopia bread basket or fill with fruits and place it as a centre table piece .
  • 10. It goes well with any curry butter or jam . It is usually served during Thanks giving day or any gatherings.
