Recipe Notes

If in a hurry. You can soak the brown rice dal Warn water grind it within an hour or two .It's ideal to soak brown rice and dal in the morning and grind in the evening so that batter is ready by .

Ingredients For Brown rice idli Recipe

Methods
  • 1. Soak the urad dal ,methi seeds and brown rice in water for about 4-6 hours
  • 2. Once soaked , drain the dal well (do not rinse with additional water) add the urad Dal along with methi seeds and rice in a mixer jar and grind by adding little water at a time as needed. ( I used 1/2 cup water for grinding)
  • 3. Add remaining water and mix well your hands or a whisk .
  • 4. Cover the Bowl and place it in a warm place , like a turned -off oven or microwave to ferment for about 8-10 hours .
  • 5. Add the Salt the better ,mix well and pour the batter into idli molds and steam it on medium - high for 10 minutes.
  • 6. Open the steamer carefully and check a clean knife .if the knife comes out clean ,idli is done.
  • 7. Remove the steamer from heat and let it stand for 5 minutes . open and remove the idli molds with a knife.
  • 8. Serve warm with sambar and coconut chutney.
