Methods
  • 1. Preparation for oats khichdi▢Wash and soak moong dal in water till used.
  • 2. ▢Next wash and chop onions, tomato, carrot and beans. You can also skip all the veggies.Make oats khichdi
  • 3. ▢Pour ghee to a hot pot or cooker. Add cumin.
  • 4. ▢When they sizzle, sauté ginger and chili till it turns aromatic. Do not burn.
  • 5. ▢Add hinge if using. Next put in the onions and sauté until transparent.
  • 6. ▢Transfer all the veggies and sauté for about 2 to 3 minutes.
  • 7. ▢If using tomato then sauté until tomatoes turn completely soft and mushy.
  • 8. ▢The raw smell of the tomatoes has to go away.
  • 9. ▢You can also add little chili powder if you prefer.
  • 10. ▢Drain the water from dal and add it to the pot.
  • 11. ▢Fry for about 2 to 3 minutes till the dal smells good.
  • 12. ▢Add oatmeal, salt and turmeric. Fry for about 2 minutes.
  • 13. ▢Pour water. You can adjust the quantity of water to make it mushy or slightly grainy.
  • 14. ▢On a medium flame, pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  • 15. ▢Dal has to cook completely.
  • 16. ▢If cooking in a pot, cook until the dal has soft cooked adding more water as needed.
  • 17. ▢When the pressure goes off open the lid. If desired can add little more ghee.
  • 18. ▢Serve oats khichdi warm.
