Gulab Jamun Bird's Nest Recipe

Gulab Jamun is a very popular Indian sweet made from deep fried balls of milk based dough that are soaked in sugary syrup. It is a favorite dessert of ours, and we often serve it for weddings, birthdays, festivals or parties. I have made it with a twist and served mini gulab jamun in a sweet vermicelli bowl.

Ingredients For Gulab Jamun Bird's Nest Recipe

Methods
  • 1. Take a skillet, add vermicelli and dry roast until it turns golden brown in colour.
  • 2. Add butter and mix it well.
  • 3. In another pan boil, 1 cup milk, add 1 cup sugar and cook on low flame for 10 minutes.
  • 4. Add roasted vermicelli in sugar milk.
  • 5. Mix well and cook for 5 - 7 minutes on medium heat or until the mixture thickens.
  • 6. Remove it from heat and add the prepared vermicelli in a small bowl.
  • 7. Spread the prepared vermicelli to the sides of the bowl to make a nest and keep in fridge for 30 minutes.
  • 8. Take a pan add water and sugar and stir continuously until the sugar is fully dissolved.
  • 9. In a mixing bowl, add khoya, all purpose flour semolina and mix it well.
  • 10. Add baking powder and knead it into a smooth soft dough.
  • 11. Take some mixture in your hands and shape it into a ball.
  • 12. Heat enough oil in heavy skillet and deep fry these until golden brown and crispy.
  • 13. Transfer this into the prepared sugar syrup and soak for 15 minutes.
  • 14. Now, demould the prepared nest from the bowl, add the gulab jamun in it and garnish with pistachios.
