Steam Coffee Cake Recipe

I prepared this cake for my friend as he loves coffee. This is an easy biscuit cake recipe. It also doesn't require much of time or efforts. There's a suprise element in the middle of the cake.

Recipe Notes

Keep the batter thick as there is already moisture in the steam. To runny batter will take long to cook and also the cake will not be firm. Do not cut the cake from middle as we have added amul dark chocolate to it and the liquid chocolate with pour out.

  • 1. Keep the amul chocolate in the freezer before starting as we require it to be hard. Grease a steel or aluminum bowl and keep it aside. Take a big vessel enough to fit your mould and add water to it and keep it covered for pre-heating.
  • 2. Finely crush the marie biscuits. Add coffee powder 4 tablespoons in 4 spoons of hot water and keep aside. Add baking powder one table spoon.
  • 3. Eno fruit salt half table spoon and 1 cup powdered sugar to the marie biscuits .
  • 4. Add coffee and water or milk toh make a smooth thick batter. Do not make it too runny.
  • 5. Take the mould we had greased add half of the batter to it. Put pieces of amul dark chocolate. They should form a layer. Add chopped walnuts and pour the other half of the batter on top of them.
  • 6. Keep the mould on a stand inside the pre heated vessel. Make sure the water level is appropriate or else the water will dry out giving a burnt flavor to the cake. Steam it for 40-50 minutes.
  • 7. Keep checking the water level and the cake after every 15 minutes.
  • 8. The knife will not come out clean as we have added chocolate which will melt but make sure only crumbled cake or chocolate is stuck to it and not liquid batter.
  • 9. Cool the cake once done and top it with hershey's syrup/nutella or any topping of your choice.
