Popsicles are integral to summers.Right from a toddler to an elderly person,everyone loves to suck on these.What if we give a twist to our dear popsicles and use a spicy flavour?And if that happens to be a sweet summer delight,our old friend juicy watermelon,its an added bonus.Try this way and you will be surprised at the burst of flavours in your mouth.

Ingredients For Spicy Baked Watermelon Popsicles Recipe

Methods
  • 1. Peel whole watermelon all around without cutting it.
  • 2. Remove all the white rind from it.
  • 3. From one side, flatten it so that it sits comfortably on the baking rack and is not wobbly.
  • 4. Score it vertically and horizontally such that we have small cube formations all around.
  • 5. keep it in fridge.
  • 6. Dry roast red chillies,sugar,brown sugar,garlic powder,red chilli powder,onion powder and cloves till aromatic.
  • 7. Do not let sugar melt.Grind these to a smooth powder.
  • 8. Rub this spicy powder thoroughly all over the watermelon and into the cuts also.
  • 9. Now rub salt everywhere on the melon and refrigerate it for about 3 hours.
  • 10. When about 10 minutes are left,make the glaze.
  • 11. For this,heat oil in a saucepan.Add crushed garlic,grated ginger,lemon zest,lemon juice,half cup brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce and cook to the consistency of a sauce,
  • 12. Take out watermelon from the refrigerator.Its size would have shrunk and much juice would be left in the vessel.
  • 13. Put the watermelon on a wire rack which can fit into your oven.Set this rack over a shallow tray.
  • 14. This is to collect the dripping juice from watermelon while baking.
  • 15. Brush the glaze thoroughly all over the watermelon.It should stick to the watermelon .
  • 16. Broil in the oven hor 10 minutes.The watermelon will be crisp and brownish in colour.
  • 17. When taken out, more juices will be dripping in the tray. Slice the melon and drip the juice over the slices.
  • 18. You can eat these slices as it is or proceed to make popsicles.
  • 19. Once cooled, pass through a blender and strain.
  • 20. You can adjust the taste by adding the juice collected in the initial stage.
  • 21. Pour the juice in popsicle moulds and freeze for about 8-9 hours.
  • 22. Lick and suck on these unquiely tasting popsicles to your heart's content.
