Aloo Bonda Tarts Recipe

Bonda is an Indian snack with both sweet and savory version and is called by different names in different region. So the recipe I am sharing today is a South Indian style savory version "Aloo Bonda". Aloo bonda is a famous South Indian street food and a popular snack across the region. It is a deep fried snacks made of spiced potato balls which are dipped in gram flour and rice flour batter and deep fried to golden beauties; crispy outer coating and soft delicious spiced potato stuffing, a perfect party snacks served in style with bread tarts and an amazing snacks for monsoon season.

Methods
  • 1. In a mixing bowl add the team flour, rice flour, turmeric powder, chilly powder, water, mix well and make a smooth thick lumps free batter.
  • 2. In a frying pan add 2 tbsp oil. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds and let it splutter.
  • 3. Add chopped onion, green chilly, ginger, coriander leaves, curry leaves and data for 2 minutes.
  • 4. Add garam masala powder, coriander powder, asafoetida, cumin powder and saute for a minutes.
  • 5. Add the cooked mashed potato, season with salt and mix well. Stir well and incorporate them nicely and saute for 3-5 mins. Take off the heat and let the mixture cool down.
  • 6. Take small portion of the mixture and roll them into balls with the help of your palms.
  • 7. In a deep frying pan add oil for deep frying. When the oil is smoking hot, summer the flame. Now dip the rolled balls into the batter and drop gently into the oil in batches.
  • 8. Deep fry them in medium heat till golden and crisp. Remove and drain them in absorbent paper.
  • 9. For making the tart, cut off the sides of the bread. Roll them nicely with a help of rolling pin. Insert them in the tart mould.
  • 10. Bake in preheated oven for 5-7 mins until it is slightly brown.
  • 11. Remove the tart from the mould. Place the aloo bonda on it. Serve them with green chutney, fried chilies, onion rings and fried curry leaves.
