Kathiyawadi Lasaniya Bateta nu Shak Recipe

Lasaniya means garlicky or garlic flavour and Bateta/Batata means Potatoes. Garlic flavored, hot and spicy Lasaniya Batata/Bateta is a delicious famous curry from Kathiyawad, Saurashtra region of Gujarat. Gravy is made with lots of garlic, tomatoes and red chillies. This recipe is medium spicy though you can make it more spicy by adding more red chillies and garlic. Basically this is made with Baby Potatoes but it can also be made using normal potatoes. Lasaniya Batata Gravy goes well with roti.

Recipe Notes

Use whole Reshampatti Red Chillies or Kashmiri Red Chillies only as these are not very spicy and gives very good colour to the gravy. Instead of baby potatoes normal potatoes can be used by cutting it in big pieces.

Ingredients For Kathiyawadi Lasaniya Bateta nu Shak Recipe

Methods
  • 1. Pressure cook baby potatoes for 2 whistles. Remove skin and keep aside.Soak red chillies in hot water for 10 to 15 mins.
  • 2. Take tomatoes, soaked red chillies, garlic cloves, jeera and ginger in mixer grinder jar and grind it to smooth paste.
  • 3. Heat oil in kadhai on medium flame. Add chopped garlic, besan, turmeric powder, dhania jeera powder, red chilli powder. Mix well and cook for a minute. Add prepared paste, salt, mix and cook till it releases oil. Keep stirring occasionally.
  • 4. Add water to adjust the consistency. Further add boiled potatoes. Mix well and cook for 5 to 10 mins on medium flame stirring occasionally. Add chopped fresh green coriander leaves. Mix well. Switch off the flame.
  • 5. Garnish with chopped fresh green coriander leaves and serve hot with roti or paratha.
