Soak the rice and lentil in the water around 5-6 hours.

Grind the lentil to a fine smooth paste, and the rice a little coarse in the grinder.

Now mix the two ground ingredients together with salt and water to form a batter with dropping consistency.

Leave the batter covered, in a warm place overnight to form a fermented spongy batter.

Steam the batter in an idli steamer and serve hot

To make sambhar, just Cook daal with salt. Add sambar masala, sugar, and vegetables, including the chopped onions, and cook till the vegetables are tender.

Once done, add tamarind.

Heat oil in a saucepan and add the mustard seeds. When they splutter, add the whole red peppers and the curry leaves.
