Bengali Veg Chop recipe

Bengali veg chop is a famous street food from Kolkata. In this dish different vegetables are used but the main ingredient is beet root. It looks similar to cutlets or kabab but it is different from that by special fresh masala and peanut which gives nice crunch to this dish.

Cook in pressure cooker by steam. Don't add water in vegetables.

Methods
  • 1. For bhaja masala:- In a small pan roast all spices mentioned above as ' for bhaja masala ' until golden brown . cool down and grind it.
  • 2. Take cubed potatoes, beetroot and carrot in a vessel. Cook in pressure cooker till 3 whistles.( Don't add water in vegetables)
  • 3. Then strain water from them if releases. Mash with masher.
  • 4. In a pan heat 3-4 teaspoon oil. Add raw peanuts and fry till golden brown. Transfer to a bowl.
  • 5. In the same pan add ginger garlic paste, chopped green chillies and saute for sometimes. Add chopped onion and saute till onion turns translucent.
  • 6. Now add boiled and mashed vegetables and combine well. Stir and cook until mixture leaves the sides of the pan.
  • 7. Add salt, prepared bhaja masala, powdered sugar, fried peanuts and chopped coriander leaves. Combine well and transfer to a bowl and allow it to cool down at room temperature.
  • 8. Make balls from mixture and give cylindrical shape.
  • 9. Mix all purpose flour, salt and enough water. Prepare slightly thick lump free batter.
  • 10. Dip cylindrical chops one by one into batter and coat with breadcrumbs properly. Put into fridge for half an hour.
  • 11. Deep fry in hot oil till golden brown. Bengali veg chop is ready to serve. Serve with tomato sauce.
